Ugh... I think I'm starting to get stir crazy. I mean, I'm used to living by myself, but I'm certainly not used to the whole "staying in the same room forever" bit. I guess this is gonna be harder than I thought. Would probably help if I could stick to my routine a little better... I gave myself a headache last night for staying up three hours longer than I meant to trying to get the Halloween Achievements on Team Fortress 2. Cause hey, last chance I'm probably gonna get, right? About all I'd say I earned from the experience though is the knowledge that getting "Gored" is frakking impossible and the reminder that the game is far to frustrating to play for any length of time. Oh... and the headache. I earned that pretty damn well.
So needless to say, I'm not feeling my best this morning. Trying to get myself straightened back out and into routine, but I think I'm going to have to make a few adjustments here and there. For starters, I don't think I'm going to be doing any reading today. The knowledge is helpful, but it's not helping me sleep at night. I need a break. So I'm gonna find something else to do. Probably dig through the stack of books I've hidden around here... somewhere... <.<; Uhh... yeah, I'll find them eventually... Just anything to keep me from staring at this screen all day. I can not afford to come down with the Black Shakes.
I'm gonna keep my blog open though. Try to keep a look out for comments. Seems like I've neglected those for a day or so. So maybe I'll just open the field for questions... I think I'm up to speed enough to answer any questions and throw out some theory.
Oh, and I thought it was on my profile, but I can't find it, so if you wanted to reach me outside the blog, my gmail is "gargoyleunderground"
Oh right, the title... A day early I know, but that's because I had a question. I haven't noticed anything that screams of "attack plans" for tomorrow, so I guess I was a little confused by that. Then again, people could just be keeping them under wraps... But anyways, I've noticed that a lot of people made a big deal about staging big battle plans for the Winter Solstice. Because one of the Sages had theorized that it was a day that Old Gaunt would be p-
Siiigh... Okay... no, lets just stop right here for a second. I've had about enough of this. I’m not going to sit here and play Slendy-Moniker Roulette every time I need to type this thing’s name out. Let’s just decide on a term right here and now and be done with it. The Construct. There. That works just fine. I liked that terminology since I first read it. It works. It fits the monster, describes him in base ideological form without having to use his actual name. It’s not insulting or making a humorous jab. And it’s not making him sound like some sort of god to be worshipped. Construct. Okay. That’s settled. Moving along.
So Construct is supposed to be weakened on the Winter Solstice, so everyone made a big deal of trying to go after him and his entourage during this time. Also resulted in Construct coming after a lot of the Runners and Fighters of the time, so there would be less of them to oppose him when the time came. (Or at least that would be the assumption for why he did all that mess.) Didn't exactly work out in the end, but a lot of effort went into it. And I'm kind of expecting something similar to happen later this year... but then what about Halloween?
Maybe everyone just forgot because the Winter Solstice took such a heavy emphasis... and maybe Halloween just came too soon or had already passed by the time it was brought up... but that Robert Sagel guy clearly indicated Halloween as being another day which the Construct would be potentially weakened. In fact, I think he mentioned that day First, before he brought up the Solstice. So I guess I'm just surprised that this big date is coming up and no one seems to be working to take advantage of it.
Just... thought I'd throw that out there, I guess.
Oh I like Slendy-Moniker Roulette, in fact I plan on writing a program that just chunks out one of his names randomly whenever I run it, just for fun. On a more serious note, Robert Sagel was wrong, his theories were wrong, don't get me wrong I actually like some of what he did, but in the end all he did was show that banding together, espically on big events like this, only makes people a bigger target. Of course that doesn't mean something isn't happening, but I'm sure they wouldn't keep me in the loop about it.

Hmm, that's going to be a hard fact to argue. It definitely seems he was wrong about a lot of things, but... that's how experimentation works I guess. Now we know what doesn't work thanks to his efforts... I guess? But at the same time, weren't there a few things he was right about? I feel bad about not having an example off hand, but... he was right about some things, right? XD I mean, he did find a way to kill that Redlight character, even if someone else had to assist in finishing the job.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably a little biased too though, due to Onewinged. His notes reference these "Sages" a lot. And I can tell that they definitely do a good job of finding ways to fight the Construct and bring hope to the other Runners. Regardless of how accurate/effective their information always is.
Like I said, I liked Sagel's work, it's just that relying on the Core Theory alone to save you isn't going to end well. I will probably make a nice little post about him and his theories once I'm finished with my current schedual, he was a fascinating individual.

That's probably true. I don't see any of the Sage's really following that Core Theory anymore. There are probably some elements that seeped over. Like the "Sage" title itself, but otherwise... they seem to have gone off in their own directions.
ReplyDeleteI'd still say there's something to the Solstice though... there was just too much activity leading up to it to discredit it as a possibility. One (failed?) experiment alone isn't enough to draw a concrete conclusion from. Maybe we'll have a better idea by the end of the next one.
Yeah. No one's attacking on Halloween because the attack on the Solstice was such an epic failure. And Robert has all the credibility of a ham sandwich these days. Less a wise sage type and more the crazy asshole who manipulated a lot of people into doing a lot of things. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteManipulated is a bit of a strong word, Elaine, crazy maybe not so much, but still. Robert had good intentions, but in the end I doubt even he knew how much of his world was reality.
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, a may be completely dense for not noting this before, Gargoyle, but do you mean to say you have never even met Him? You may not even be infected yet, although at this point that is doubtful.

@Elaine - Hmm, not to pass the blame or anything, but given that Robert was out of commission at the time... Wouldn't the Solstice failure have been Zero's fault? ^.^;;
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's still an example of Robert being (probably) wrong though... so I digress. I'm probably still missing parts of the overall picture.
@Cage - I think I mentioned it in my first post. I can detail it a bit better in my next one I guess... But no, I've yet to have an encounter with the Construct. Not to my knowledge anyways. I mean, I was still in occasional direct contact with Onewinged during the time it was stalking him, so I guess it is possible that it has been around me before without catching my attention. Not something I'd really like to think about however... <.<;;
You're right. The solstice failure isn't directly Robert's fault, but it has been speculated that the idea of times when he's weaker is bullshit.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am fairly known for being that crazy bitch who rants and raves about how stupid Core Theory was and how giving it any credibility at all is suicide.
So I'm a little biased.
I suppose that makes sense. The entire point was that the day was supposed to be symbolic, but that logic was only going to work, I suspect, if everyone truly believe that he would be weakened during such an event. Odds of that happening are slim I imagine... too many conflicting points of data.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd say I follow the "core" of Core Theory myself... but I do think there might have been some elements that, in a different light/context could still be meaningful. But as a whole... yeah... It seems to have been proven a failure.
Say, if you're opening the feild to questions I have one: Why the Gargoyle, I can see some ovbious parrallels, but other aspects of the Gargoyle contrast you sharply. A creature that sits high above all it overlooks, a being of darkness, a monster of instinct, not will. From what I've seen of you none of these seem to fit you very well, but that's just my perception.

Free, if you have this thing subscribed by any chance.. I would LOVE to have that damn program.
